GENERAL QUESTIONS

Q1:If I pay today, when can I expect to receive my order?

BRE:   It normally takes us 5 to 6 business days to fully prepare, test and ship your order. Before shipping, all of our orders undergo rigorous testing to ensure that your items are properly prepared, defect-free and can withstand the long hours of transportation, sometimes across the ocean. We ship with TNT  Express (tracking number is provided to you after we ship), and transit times depend on your location. Please also see Shipping Information for more information.

Q2:      What kind of payment methods do you accept?

BRE:   We accept credit card payments (VISA or MasterCard only). We also accept EMT (Electronic Money Transfer) from our customers in Canada. We also accept Bank Wire Transfer (T/T)  to our bank in Canada. In certain cases we also accept Western Union payments.

Q3:      What is your return/exchange policy?

BRE:   Our return / exchange policy is described on our website, please visit our Terms and Conditions page to know more information.

Q4:      How will you ship my order?

BRE:   We will ship your order with TNT Express. We will provide you with a tracking number within 24hrs after shipping your order.

Q5:      Do you use new or used parts in your CIC retrofit kits?

BRE:   Our CIC kits are comprised of used BMW OEM CIC head units, iDrive controllers and CID monitors, but we inspect each item individually to ensure that every item that you get is in very good cosmetic condition, without significant visible scratches, dents or defects, however their may be some minor signs of wear, since equipment is used. We test and inspect each item in our laboratory to ensure that every item that you get is in proper working condition, without any defects. All other parts in our CIC kits (cables, wires, connectors, plastics, etc.) are new.

Q6:      Do you use new or used parts in your Combox kits?

BRE:   Our Combox kits are comprised of new BMW OEM parts only.

Q7:      Do you use OEM or aftermarket parts in your rear view camera retrofits?

BRE:   We use brand new very good quality aftermarket rear view cameras, that integrate perfectly with your factory installed or retrofitted OEM CIC systems. For F10 and E70 we also offer OEM rear-view camera kits.

Q8:      I live in Canada. Will you charge me any taxes?

BRE:   Yes, we will charge you 5% GST. If you live in Quebec, we will also charge you 9.975% QST.

Q9:      I live outside of Canada. Will I have to pay any import duties / taxes?

BRE:   It is likely. Please check with your country’s border services/customs authorities to determine what these additional costs will be prior to buying.

QUESTIONS RELATED TO CIC RETROFIT KITS

Q10:    I currently have a CCC navigation system/MASK/CHAMP/. If I buy your CIC kit, will I lose any of my current options? Will it cause any of the warning light to go on? Will it be like factory-installe?

BRE:Your CIC kit will be pre-coded for your vehicle (using your VIN#), and if required, it will also be coded remotely after installation to ensure that it is correctly integrated in your vehicle. It will not cause any of the warning lights to go on, and you will not lose any* of your current options, if you upgrade your CCC/MASK/CHAMP to CIC.

*Special conditions apply to Satellite/HD/DAB radio. Please see below for more information.

Q11:    If I do a CIC retrofit, will I lose my Satellite radio?

BRE:   If you have a Satellite radio as a separate module, it will continue to work normally after the CIC retrofit. However, if your Satellite radio was not factory-installed, please advise about it your Bimmer Retrofit representative when you place your order.

Q12:    If I do a CIC retrofit, will I lose my HD/DAB radio?

BRE:   The only way to keep your HD/DAB radio is to install a CIC head unit, which has HD/DAB radio built in. These units are very rare and more expensive then regular ones.

Q13:    I currently have a non-iDrive vehicle. Can I purchase a complete CIC kit from you to convert my vehicle to iDrive? Will it be like factory-installed? Will I be able to control some setting from the CIC, rather than from the dashboard?

BRE:   Yes, we do offer complete non-iDrive to iDrive conversion kits. Once the CIC system is correctly installed and coded, you will have a CIC system with all the same functionalities and controls, as if it was factory installed.

Q14:    Do I need iDrive wiring?

BRE:   If your vehicle is not equipped with iDrive at this time, you will need to purchase iDrive wiring.

Q15:    Is your CIC kit plug and play? What is required for this retrofit?

BRE:   Our CIC kit is “plug and play”, in a sense that you will not need to cut and splice wires. Our CIC kits are always updated with the latest software and we ship them pre-coded for your specific vehicle (based on your VIN#).  After you install the CIC system in your vehicle, coding may be required is certain cases, especially so if you have an E6x and/or if you have chosen an FSC code activation. It is rarely required for E9x and E7x models. In case coding is required in your specific case, we will do coding remotely at no extra charge, but you will need to have a USB K+DCAN cable if you have E-series or ENET cable if you have F-series. We offer both cables in our online store.

Depending on the production date of the vehicle, software update for the vehicle may be required for the Combox to function normally. Please see Software Update section at the end of this page for more information.

Q16:    I purchased a CIC system from another seller and it does not work when I install it in my vehicle (E-series) / does not work correctly. What am I missing?

BRE:   Provided that you have purchased a correct CIC system for your vehicle and that it is in normal working condition, we can offer you a complete solution to activate your CIC kit. If you will need to order the following from Bimmer Retrofit: (a) PNP activation module for navigation, voice recognition, video in motion;  (b) Coding Services; (c) if you do not already have a USB K+DCAN cable for remote coding, you will need to purchase one from us or from eBay if you find it more convenient.

Q17:    I purchased a CIC system from another seller and it does not work when I install it in my vehicle (F-series) / does not work correctly. What am I missing?

BRE:   Provided that you have purchased a correct CIC system for your vehicle and that it is in normal working condition, we can offer you a complete solution to activate your CIC kit. If you will need to order the following from Bimmer Retrofit: (a) FSC activation code with importation. Please consult with one of our representatives to obtain a price quotation; (b) Coding Services; (c) if you do not already have a ENET cable, you will need to purchase one from us or from eBay if you find it more convenient.

Q18:    What is the difference between the FSC activation method and hardware activation method? Which one should I chose?

BRE:   OEM FSC code activation is the activation method which is used by BMW at the factory level. Hardware activation is an aftermarket activation method which uses our own certified PNP activation module. The main difference between these activation methods is PRICE (FSC activation method is ~70% more expensive than the PNP activation method).

PNP activation method is by far the most popular activation method if you have an older vehicle, for which CIC has never been offered. If you have a newer vehicle, for which CIC was offered, but was not installed, then you may want to choose the FSC code activation if you do not wish to lose your manufacturer’s warranty.

COMBOX RELATED QUESTIONS

Q19:    I have a BMW with a factory installed / retrofitted CIC, is it possible to get a Combox Media from you?

BRE:   It is possible, however if your vehicle is not equipped with Bluetooth, Microphone at this time, you will need to get some additiona wiring. If you are not sure whether you need additional wiring, please send us an email to info@bimmerretrofit.com with your VIN# and one of our representatives will let you know what you will need in order to do a Combox Media retrofit.

Q20:    Will I lose BMW Assist / SOS functionalities, when I install Combox Media?

BRE:   Yes, you will lose BMW Assist and SOS functionalities when you install Combox Media, there is no way to retain these functionalities.

Q21:    I heard that with Combox Telematics, I can retain BMW Assist / SOS functionalities. Do you offer Combox Telematics?

BRE:   We do not offer Combox Telematics at this time because so far none of our clients were able to get their local BMW dealer to transfer the BMW assist number to the Combox Telematics in order to retain the BMW Assist, so even with Combox Telematics there is no certain way to retain the BMW Assist because of the limitations imposed by BMW. We may get a Combox Telematics upon your special request, but it will cost you extra; this item will not be returnable or exchangeable and we do not guarantee that you will have BMW Assist / SOS, since with Combox Telematics, it fully depends on your local BMW dealer’s decision. Therefore, we suggest that you contact your local BMW dealer first, in order to be certain that they WILL transfer the BMW assist number for you.

Q22:    Is your Combox Media retrofit “plug and play”? What will be required for this retrofit?

BRE:   We offer both PNP (plug-and-play) and non-PNP version. Non-PNP version will require you to reconnect some pins, but you will not need to cut and solder any wires (we provide an installation instruction with the pin-out diagram for easy installation); this is time consuming.

The Comboxes are always updated with the latest software and we ship them pre-coded for your specific vehicle (based on your VIN#).  After you install the Combox in your vehicle, coding will be required.  We will do coding remotely at no extra charge, but you will need to have a USB K+DCAN cable if you have E-series or ENET cable if you have F-series. We offer both cables in our online store.

Depending on the production date of the vehicle, software update for the vehicle may be required for the Combox to function normally. Please see Software Update section at the end of this page for more information.

Q23:    I would like to purchase the PNP version of Combox Media, but I am not sure which cables I should get.

BRE:   If you have both MULF and TCU, you will need to get the following: PNP cables for MULF and TCU, Bluetooth antenna adapter and MOST loop terminator. If you have either MULF or TCU, then you will only need to get the PNP cable for MULF or TCU. If you are not sure whether your vehicle is equipped with MULF/TCU, please send us an email to info@bimmerretrofit.com with your VIN# and one of our representatives will let you know what you will need in order to do a Combox Media retrofit.

Q24:    I have a BMW E9x / E8x / E7x / E6x with an old CCC navigation system, is it possible to get a Combox from you?

BRE:   No, we do not offer any types of retrofits for CCC. However, you can first upgrade your CCC to CIC, and then install the Combox.

Q25:    I have a non-iDrive BMW E9x / E8x / E7x / E6x / F-series, is it possible to get a Combox from you?

BRE:   Combox Media is only compatible with vehicles, equipped with a CIC system, so it will not work in your vehicle. However, you can first install CIC in your vehicle and then do a Combox Retrofit.

Connected Drive is an extension of Combox Media, and cannot be installed on it’s own. Please see Combox-related Questions for more information about Combox.
